KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah left on Friday afternoon to perform Umrah.
A spokesman here said that before flying for Saudi Arabia he held an important meeting at the CM House to discuss some important issues such as recovery of Awais Shah the son of the Sindh High Court chief justice, arrest of killers of sufi ‘qawwal’ Amjad Sabri, and maintenance of law and order and improvement of municipal services.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja, Karachi Commissioner Aijaaz Ali Khan and other relevant officers. The chief minister said that the two serious incidents, the kidnapping of Barrister Awais Shah and killing of Amjad Sabri had become big challenges for the government.
“I have no doubt in the performance of our Law Enforcement Agencies, they are professional and have shown their performance by restoring peace in this city where terrorists, mafias and gangs had started swaying,” he said. “With our political will and commitment almost all the mafias have been wiped out, terrorists are made on their toes.”
The chief minister said that the faded glories of Karachi had started restoring, public confidence had developed in the government and the law enforcement agencies. People who had confined themselves and their families within the four walls of their homes had started coming out for recreation, picnics and feasts. Art and musical activities kept thriving as well, he added.
He went on saying, “it was my dream to provide peaceful atmosphere to the people of this city which had bleed profusely for many years. Thanks to Almighty Allah and unforgettable sacrifices of our LEAs, my dream had come true. But all of a sudden, the son of the chief justice was kidnapped and within next two days a melodious ‘qawwali’ singer was assassinated.”
He said, “All my dreams which had turned into reality shattered and my heart started crying, but the power of public mandate and their support had encouraged me and I have full confidence in my forces that both the cases would be resolved soon.”
Qaim urged the IG Khawaja to ensure proper security in all the markets, bus stands, railways station and such other important positions and to keep close coordination with all the agencies for intelligence sharing.
“I am sure you (IG) would give me good news of working out both the cases, Awais Shah and Sabri, in Saudi Arabia where I’ll pray for you (LEAs) and for the people of Sindh and Pakistan,” he said.
The chief minister also directed the chief secretary to keep proper monitoring of cleansing of ‘nalas’, pumping out of rain water and proper cleanliness work. He directed the commissioner and the administrator to ensure delivery of free water tankers service and also coordinate with Karachi Electric to have mercy on poor people of Karachi.
“KE has earned a lot of money from this city – if they sustained some minor losses in some slum and poverty-stricken areas of Karachi, it would not matter for them,” he said and urged KE to own this city and be `friends of Karachiites’ and contribute in the peace efforts of the government.
He extended `Jumatul Wida’ greetings to the officers present in the meeting. The participants of the meeting also prayed for him. The chief minister after performing Umrah will return back here on July 5.
