PARACHINAR: A grand jirga meeting of the elders from Shia and Sunni sects, organisers, volunteers, representatives from civil societies of more than 300 Imam Barghas in upper and lower areas was held on Sunday for preparations of peaceful Muharram.
The jirga meeting and organisers have discussed ways and means to ensure their cooperation to the officials of the political administration and security forces in maintaining peace in their ranks.
The anti-state elements and forces were out to divide the nation on religious and ethnic grounds and pit the people against each others to create chaos and destabilise the country, they said. The organisers said that all out support would be ensured to the security forces to counter any conspiracy against the country.
The elders urged upon the people from both the sects to promote religious harmony and tolerance to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy against the motherland.
The jirga meeting decided to keep a vigilant eye to prevent entry of any anti-social elements. The representatives of the two religious factions assured full support to the security forces in maintaining peace in their respective areas. The jirga meeting was told that various committees have constituted including the organisers, volunteers of Imam Baghas, who would be deployed in mourning processions in the month of Muharram to avert any untoward incident.
The elders further decided to observe Muharram peacefully and with reverence in Kurram Agency. The elders from various tribes along with civil and security officials also participated in the jirga meeting and discussed security arrangements for Muharram processions and maintaining peace during the sacred days. The elders said that they would observe religious days peacefully, as they have done in the past.
