LONDON – Sarfraz Merchant, who levelled serious allegations against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders including London-based party chief Altaf Hussain, has agreed to visit Pakistan for recording his statement.
He said that he had not accused Altaf of receiving money from the Indian intelligence agency, RAW, but Scotland Yard had done so. “I am only a witness,” he added. Meanwhile, two committees have been formed to remove reservations of Sarfraz Merchant. One committee will look into the allegations levelled by him, while another will remove Sarfraz Merchant’s reservations and fears.
Earlier, he refused to appear before the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA). The FIA had summoned Merchant at its Islamabad office on March 15 to investigate the allegations he levelled against the MQM leadership. He objected to showing of him as accused in the summons. “I am not an accused but a witnesses”, he had remarked.
On the other hand, the Interior Ministry directed FIA to address the reservations of Sarfraz Merchant and asked the FIA Director to personally contact him.
