KARACHI: Several vehicles were reportedly torched in different parts of the metropolis during the past 24 hours, officials said on Thursday
According to details, a coaster was set on fire in Landhi while two vehicles – a bus and a bulldozer – were also torched in two separate incidents on Wednesday night. A minibus was also torched in the old city area of Napier.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reached out to the provincial Police Inspector General to express displeasure over the incident and ordered him to arrest and penalise the suspects. “These are the days of love, peace and happiness. The days of violence are over,” Shah said.
Police officials said that the arson related incidents were a ploy to spread fear ahead of the by-polls in the PS-127 constituency as in FIRs of at least three such cases, workers of a political party were nominated – which they refused to divulge because they wanted to arrest them first.
Joharabad, Taimuria and Sukhan Police have registered cases against the workers of a ‘political party’ and raids were being conducted to arrest them, sources said. Police have registered the cases under anti-terrorism act of 1997 against the suspects.
