KAHUTA: Lashing out at critics, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that people had rejected politics of humiliating others and no such politician could claim to be the leader of civilized Pakistanis.
He was addressing a public gathering in Narh village, Kahuta. Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was also present.
“Pakistanis honour others and receive honour. The one [person] who has a habit of publicly disgracing and humiliating others cannot be their leader. [All] Tall claims ended in a whimper,” the prime minister said in an apparent reference to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.
“The opposition is scared of the journey of progress and prosperity started by the government and wants to interrupt it at any cost. Such elements want to halt the development process,” he said. The prime minister vowed not to bow down before opposition’s such “attempts and negative propaganda”.
“No previous government ever took such steps for the development of the country as the PML-N government is now taking,” he said.
The PM said that those responsible for creating the energy crisis were “public offenders”. “Their apathy caused load-shedding to increase to 18 hours a day. The credit for reviving the economy, conducting nuclear tests, building motorways and ending the energy crisis goes to the PML-N government,” he said. The PM also expressed the confidence that the PML-N would win the next general elections on the basis of its performance.
“Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, we are constructing a highway from Khunjrab at the Chinese border down to Gwadar. It will connect the country’s north with south,” the PM said.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the country’s ongoing development had alarmed opponents. “They know that it will enable the PML-N to get more opportunities to serve the masses, while they will have to wait once again,” the PM said.
He advised the opposition not to impede national development and instead support the government in resolving the crises facing the country.
“Inflation is on a downward trend. It is also the government’s top priority to end unemployment,” he said.
Earlier, the PM had announced various development projects for Kahuta and Kalar Sayedan, including widening of the Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road to a two-lane highway, electricity and gas supply for all union councils and upgrade of Kahuta Hospital and 12 high schools to higher secondary schools. The PM said that a tunnel would be constructed to reduce the distance between Rawalpindi and Narh.
